The municipality of Sao Paulo arranged a competition for the development of several typologies of social housing, classified according to their density, going from single-family homes to groups of apartments in compact blocks. However, the parameters of the competition did not have the space for reflection around the importance of building a city with this type of development, and was more oriented to solve only the building itself. With our proposal, we chose to design a unit or block that would respond to the construction of urban life and urban components such as the street, the square and the park. As a complement, we also wanted to formulate a flexible housing unit that allowed adaptation over time to changes within the family profile, in opposition to solutions with rigid construction systems. The third argument was the development an architecture sensitive to the irregular topography of Sao Paulo, a city that does not have flat land. We wanted to avoid trimming of land, that doesn't grant a direct relation of the buildings with the street, following the good style and teaching of Oscar Niemeyer's Copan Building. Once we won the competition, it was required to negotiate with the municipality the conditions of the contract, according to the approaches of the proposal which exceeded the scope of the simple design of a repetitive building. Unfortunately, we could not reach a reasonable agreement, so it was decided to not continue the process.
